A 12-YEAR-OLD boy died after he was found hanging in his bedroom, an inquest heard.

John Luke McCormick, from Prenton, was discovered after he had gone upstairs to watch television.

He was pronounced dead at at Arrowe Park Hospital at 12.30am, on March 5 of last year.

The inquest, which was held at Wallasey Town Hall on Thursday, heard that John had been with his parents and siblings at his father Simon’s home in St Oswald’s Mews, Prenton, on the night of the tragedy.

The Observatory School pupil had had a minor argument over a PlayStation but stayed in the living room with the family.

Detective Inspector Rachel Wilson, from Wirral Family Crime Investigation unit, said: “After the argument, John resumed watching television with the family and then went to his bedroom.

"His television in the bedroom was loud which was not unusual.

“A short time later his brother also went up to the same bedroom they shared together and could be heard screaming hysterically. Both parents went upstairs to find John hanging unconscious.”

Paramedics were called and John was rushed to hospital where, sadly, resuscitation attempts failed.

Recording a verdict of death by misadventure, Wirral coroner Christopher Johnson, said: “It is quite clear from the events that occurred that there is no evidence that John did what he did with the intention of ending his life.

“It was the chain of events that went tragically wrong which led to him dying from hanging.”
