POLICE have confirmed the body recovered from the River Mersey is missing Wirral man Robbie Crofts.
Officers were called to the coastline near Birkenhead on Sunday morning following reports that a body had been seen in the water.
It has today confirmed it was that of 21-year-old Robbie who had been missing since Sunday, August 28.
He and girlfriend Hayley Holmes had spent the day together at the Mathew Street Festival before making a late-night visit to the seafront.
Hayley’s body was found washed up on New Brighton beach the following morning by a dog-walker.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Dave McCaughrean said: "Our thoughts are with Robbie and Hayley's families at this sad time."
A post-mortem examination established the cause of Robbie’s death as drowning. An inquest will be opened later this week.
