STEVEN Gerrard paid a visit to Wirral today to treat a group of children to a special one-off football session.

The LFC skipper dropped into Wallasey-based charity Stick ‘n’ Step to present a cheque for £5,000.

He donated the cash to the Cerebral Palsy charity as part of his own Steven Gerrard Foundation, which was set up in January.

And Steven told the Globe that he chose Stick ‘n’ Step because of first-hand experience with them.

He said: “This charity is very close to my heart as I have a friend whose child comes here. I have seen the improvement in his development and how important Stick ‘n’ Step is. Centres like this go a long way to improve the lives of children with Cerebral Palsy and related conditions and I am so pleased that I am in a position to be able to help.

“I’m sure we will stay in touch with the charity and hope to work with them again in the future.”

As part of his visit, Steven answered questions from children and treated them to a special mini football session.

Stick ‘n’ Step was set up almost 10 years ago and aims to help children become more independent and have a better quality of life.

Kerri Roe-Ely, fundraiser at Stick ‘n’ Step, said: “We are thrilled that Steven has come along today, I have never seen the children so excited and animated. We are not a big charity so £5,000 goes a long way for us and we are very grateful. It costs around £250,000 a year for us to keep our doors open so any sum of money is always appreciated.
