GREEN-FINGERED volunteers are needed to take part in a community project to produce locally-grown food in Hoylake.
As part of 'Incredible Edible Hoylake' Rose Chandler and Sally Scott have been planting and harvesting crops across the town, for consumption by the public.
The scheme was inspired by a similar project in Todmorden, Yorkshire, where people in their local community started to grow food on bits of nearby unused land.
The idea is spreading and Wirral Council is keen to get a similar project going.
A public meeting to attract more volunteers onto the project will be held at Melrose Hall in Melrose Avenue, in Hoylake this Monday, May 23 at 7pm.
Sally said: "We are passionate about food and recognise that it is something that brings people together – we all need to eat but this project also provides opportunities for learning and relaxing together in a resilient, supportive, healthy community.
"We felt self conscious to start with as we cleaned up small bits of land but have received overwhelming positive interest.
"From this massive response, support and ideas received so far we have no doubts that everyone in the community can gain by joining in."
