MORE than 10,000 motorcyclists travelled from across the world for Wirral’s 31st Egg Run yesterday.
Hundreds of spectators lined the streets to cheer them on as they made their way to Clatterbridge Hospital.
After meeting in New Brighton, the bikers fired up their engines for their annual journey to raise cash for local charities.
They took over the borough’s roads as they followed a route through Wallasey Village, onto Leasowe Road and through to Moreton Cross before turning right through Moreton and heading through Hoylake, West Kirby, Caldy and Heswall, then turning onto the Chester High Road and heading into Thornton Hough and on to Clatterbridge Hospital.
And organiser Graham Heron said the day had been a great success.
He said: “It was a brilliant day and the weather brought hundreds of people out to cheer on the bikers along the whole route.
We couldn’t say how much money was raised yet because it can take up to two weeks to get a figure. But we want to say a big thank-you to everyone who took part and donated.”
On its first run in 1980, around 20 riders took part taking Easter Eggs to give to sick children at Arrowe Park Hospital.
The run changed to a charity fundraiser in 1998 and has so far raised around £75,000 for local causes.
