American investors Club 9 Sports could finalise their takeover bid for Tranmere Rovers within a matter of days - according to a statement on the company's Facebook page.

Rovers fans were taken by surprise in February when the club announced takeover talks were being held with the Chicago-based firm.

Chairman Peter Johnson last month confirmed Club 9 Sports had made an offer, which was being considered.

Now, responding to a question by a Tranmere fan asking if the deal had collapsed, a Club 9 statement on Facebook says: "The deal will certainly be sorted in the next few weeks - if not days.

"We recognize that we'll soon be in the time period when fans and supporters make decisions about next season. Therefore, it must happen very soon."

The company also outlined plans for Rovers if they do take control of the club: "In short, improving the club for the long-term with key investment and management focus on business operations, pitch performance and international player development.

"If we can get the deal finalized, we'll be anxious to share the plans with all."

Wirral Council - Rovers' official sponsors - has invested £116,000 in sponsorship for the current season.

The Globe asked TRFC for a statement or interview concerning the takeover deal but the club would only say "discussions are still ongoing."
