Squid, or calamari tubes, are really cheap and make an amazing medi style stirfry fodder.
Ocado/Waitrose are offering squid tubes (cleaned, ready to go, sans tentacles) at an incredible price.
Perfect for the last of the summer evenings, simply slice the squid into half cm rings, really thin, then throw into a generous non stick frying pan with a bit of olive oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan - you need it hot to get the squid browned but not tough.
Once it's almost ready, I throw in a super finely chopped garlic clove, some parsley and loads of lemon juice and black pepper. Delicious!
I braved the rain on Sunday morning over the Bank Holiday to get to the Wirral Food Festival early. It was the best so far I'd say, with great stalls from More? Artisan Bakery, gorgeous food from the grill courtesy of Puschka and even livestock and birds of prey to look at. Long may it continue!
