THE findings of a scathing report on Wirral Council's provision of adult social care will be considered by cabinet tonight.

Compiled by the Care Quality Review, the report is the result of a review that was conducted in May.

The report critises Wirral Social Services for its poor performance in safeguarding adults with learning disabilities and adequate work in supporting adults with a learning disabililty to make a positive contribution.

It also found that the council had performed poorly in helping adults with a learning disability to have increased choice and control.

The CQC report, that will be considered by cabinet tonight, makes a number of recommendations on how the council can improve its performance in the area of adult social care.

The meeting, at Wallasey Town Hall, starts at 6.15pm.

Martin Morton, a former supported living development officer for Wirral Social Services, is critical of the report.

Mr Morton raised concerns about overcharging to the Wirral Globe in November, 2008, after he was given a £45,000 pay-off from the council to leave his job in social services.

He said: "From a professional viewpoint it's gratifying to know that your concerns about safeguarding have been vindicated but from a personal point of view I find the report to be both frustrating and distressing.

"There is repeated reference in the report for the need to develop supported living for adults with learning disabilities but if you harass the Supported Living Development Officer out of their post for bringing to the Council's attention the "inconvenient truths" detailed in the report how is that possibly going to happen?"
