WIRRAL-based ceramic sculptor Janet Holmes has been nominated for the Cheshire Woman of the Year award.

Janet, from Prenton, studied ceramics at Wallasey Art College in the late 1970s and has staged a string of successful exhibitions over the years.

Her most recent display 'Fired' was featured at the Birkenhead Priory, which culminated in a permanent wall hanging at the historic building.

The Cheshire Woman of the Year award recognises outstanding professional achievement.

Commenting on her nomination, Janet said: "It came as a complete surprise and I am not exactly sure which gallery put me forward but I'm tremendously humbled.

"I am building my career again after raising my family.

"This is such a great boost to my confidence and comes coincidently with the news that two of my pieces have been accepted in the prestigious Wirral Spring Open exhibition at the Williamson Art Gallery."
