I AGREE wholeheartedly with the letter headlined Moreton isolated without bus' (Mailbox, May 17).

My husband and I came to live in this area 10 years ago primarily as we required a bungalow, myself being disabled and both of us being elderly.

At that time there was a bus route along Leasowe Road from Wallasey Village to Reeds Lane and then through to Moreton. That route was soon axed, leaving us with just the No 117, which more recently became the No 17.

This service emerged onto Leasowe Road close to the Castle and served this area and Pasture Road efficiently, offering access to most amenities and to both hospitals.

The No 17 has now been axed, completely severing the vicinity from all amenities.

Before the withdrawal of the No 17, I contacted Merseytravel regarding the lack of transport in this area to Wallasey Village and Liscard.

Their reply to me on the phone was "we do not run public transport for private estates our chief concern is council estates."

I did not find this acceptable, but the phone was put down on me.

On these recently-built estates at Moreton Shore, the situation is now that the nearest shop, train station, school, doctors' surgery, church and the like are a two-mile walk away.

We can, therefore, no longer access the hospitals by public transport and people who work at the hospitals are no longer able to get transport to work.

Our grand-daughter, who spent time with us, has had to move to a flat near the hospital where she works. Is this progress? We are now virtually housebound.

This is not just inconvenience it is heartless, particularly to the young, the disabled and the elderly.
