MORE than 20 jobs will go when Kwik Save in Woodchurch Road Prenton will close on March 29.

The store will be the only branch of the budget supermarket in Wirral not to be saved in an acquisition of the brand by new owners BTTF.

The entrepreneurial group of retail and business professionals have bought 171 Kwik Save stores across the country. The rest will be converted into Somerfield stores or closed.

Kwik Saves in Noctorum and Wallasey Village will become Somerfield stores while branches in Birkenhead and Wallasey will remain as Kwik Save.

Oxton Councillor, Pat Williams is concerned that Kwik Save will be one of many shops in the Woodchurch Road complex to close.

She said: "I have the impression that since several of the shops in the vicinity have already shut and Kwik Save has just announced it will close, that other shops will leave too.

"The shopping area is a thriving community and it is appreciated by the general public.

"It is a great shame that Kwik Save will close and it will leave less competition and choice for customers in Prenton shopping centre."

A spokesman for Somerfield confirmed that a new retailer has bought the property, providing hope that the 21 members of staff made redundant will be offered jobs.
