TWO WIRRAL Citizens Advice centres will close following a reduction in funding for staff if proposals are backed by Wirral Council.

Heswall and Bebington branches of the advice centres will shut their doors leaving just three centres in Wirral.

A process of cutting costs through centralising services is blamed for job losses as all back office services will be moved to Wallasey, while the loss of centres will mean two advice centre supervisors face redundancy.

Mike Eden, chief executive officer of Wirral CAB, said: "The company now has to re-evaluate staffing levels to bring them into line with future demand and prepare to deal with emerging opportunities in the market place.

"Given the changes in funding and loss of contracts serving advocacy in the health service the company will now concentrate on improving the availability of services of the Wirral community in areas where there is the greatest demand."

But he said that due to demand the outreach centre at Arrowe Park will remain open and similar centres may be set up

"The likely impact will be the loss of jobs and closure of static services, to be replaced by a peripatetic service."
