LANDLORDS failing to pay for work when served with improvement notices could be fined as part of new measures proposed by Wirral council.

Residents will be consulted on the proposed changes to key housing policies in the borough over the next month. Among them are plans to license managers of multiple occupancy houses, and replace the current system of relocation and renovation grants.

Landlords who fail to pay for improvement or demolition work after they are issued with notices and the work is later carried out by the council will be fined.

Alan Stennard, Wirral's director of regeneration said: "Wirral Council is keen to ensure all residents have their say on important housing issues such as these and would encourage anyone wishing to share their view to contact us." Under the proposals, relocation grants for owner-occupiers affected by council action leading to clearance of houses would be replaced with an equity-based loan, which would provide finance of up to £35,000 to help bridge the cost of moving.
