RESIDENTS have voted for a "Knot" design for a new-look Kings Gap roundabout in Hoylake.

The proposed new landmark received majority support at an exhibition held in the town a fortnight ago.

The unique design represents a swirl of seabirds in the shape of a Turkshead knot, traditionally used by mariners and fishermen. It would be cast in bronze and raised up above the roundabout.

Sculptor David Annand was chosen through open competition by a panel of public representatives and local councillors.

Vicky Clarke, vice chair of the Friends of Hoylake and Meols Parks and Open Spaces, said: "The design seems to have caught the imagination of most people and cleverly links the town with the beach and the sea. The birds seem to have appeal for people of all ages, while also drawing on the maritime heritage of Hoylake."
