A MUM got more than she bargained for in her Iceland shopping after she found a mouse nibbling through her groceries.

Jacqui Williams had just started to unpack the door-to-door delivery when she spotted what she thought was a twig sticking out of her order.

But the discovery turned out to be something altogether different - a hungry rodent burrowing into crisps bought for her sons David, seven, and twelve-month-old Callum.

"I went to remove the twig and then realised it wasn't a twig at all," she said. "It was a mouse's tail and I'd startled the poor thing as it was gnawing its way through a multipack of my son's Wotsits!

"I screamed and almost fainted. I absolutely hate mice and rats and the last thing I expected to find in my shopping was one of my worst enemies having a good feed at my expense."

Jacqui, 28, from Raleigh Road, Leasowe, contacted Iceland's Liscard store straight away and told them what had happened.

"I get some of my shopping delivered by Iceland every week because it's so convenient and they're very reliable," she said.

"And last Monday morning it was no different than normal to begin with. The delivery arrived at 4.50pm and as usual I carried it through to the kitchen and began to unpack.

"Then I saw the mouse and almost keeled over. I'd packed the bags myself earlier in the day at the shop before leaving them for delivery and I know for a fact it wasn't there then.

"I rang Iceland in Liscard and within half-an-hour a man from the shop came round with a box of Celebrations chocolates as an apology. He also told me to ask for him by name the next time I was in the shop and he would make sure I'd receive £15 off my next order.

"The man also told me that the shop had had a problem with mice for the last four weeks."

A spokeswoman at Iceland's head office in Chester said: "We were concerned to learn that our customer reported finding a mouse within their bag of shopping.

"This issue is being dealt with as a top priority.

"Our pest contractors are regularly visiting the store to ensure our usual high standards are maintained.

"Additional inspections will be also be made by members of our technical team. We have been in contact with our customer and will be providing her with a full report on our findings shortly."
