New Brighton . . . 8pts Darlington . . . 23pts
by Doug Thorpe
NEW Brighton, though bundled out of the Powergen National Trophy, in this third round tie, will be hoping to reverse the result as they renew acquaintances with their opponents when they travel to Darlington on Saturday for a National League Three North fixture.
The Blues never threw in the towel and there was a glimmer of hope when they gained their only try on the hour. But Darlington always seemed to have a little in reserve and it was all over by the 67th minute when they stretched to 23-8.
New Brighton's try scorer was Steve Fox and Ian Murray added the home side's other points with a penalty.
New Brighton are next in action at Hartsfield, Reeds Lane, Moreton, on Saturday, October 22, when they entertain Preston Grasshoppers (kick-off 3pm).
