Wirral Rugby Round-up with Andrew Stratton
IT was a poor day for the local sides in South Lancashire and Cheshire One League, with all being beaten.
Anselmians fell to in-form Leigh 17-7. Murray King converted a try by Ian Jessermino.
Wirral finished 17-22 at home to Isle of Man visitors Vagabonds.
There were tries from Tim Hodson and Colin Davies, with Dan Harvey landing both conversions and a penalty.
Hoylake were out of sorts at Northwich and suffered their first reverse. Hoylake had to settle for two penalties by Stephen Young.
Oldershaw lost 18-41 at Broughton Park, who finished much the stronger. Mark Sopp, Mike Keeley and Carl Porschke went in for Shaw and John Jones managed a penalty.
Wallasey in Division Two failed 8-46 at St Edward's. Keith Mahon crossed and Paul Lewis struck a penalty.
In Division Three, Parkonians were thrashed 8-72 at Oswestry.
Port Sunlight and Prenton both won in Division Four. Sunlight came away 25-3 to the good from Helsby, thanks to tries from Chris Lister, 2, Matt Ray, Terry McManus and Joe Worsley.
Prenton beat Congleton 30-10. Lee Gordon crossed twice and Graham Leehay and Gareth Knapman once each. The latter targeted two conversions and a couple of penalties.
League fixtures on Saturday include Anselmians v Northwich, Oldershaw v Leigh, Hoylake v Sandbach, Wirral at Wilmslow, Wallasey v Wigan, Parkonians v Sefton, Port Sunlight v Linley and Kidsgrove and Prenton at Holmes Chapel.
