TWO Wirral boxers have reason to punch the air with delight this morning . . .

Moreton fighter Nick McDonald, officially ranked as the number one bantamweight in Great Britain, tasted success on Friday night, when he comfortably outpointed his opponent while representing England in an international against Italy in Sunderland.

Nick, one of two Wirral boxers who won coveted ABA championship titles earlier this year, did his chances of being selected for the British team at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in February no harm at all as he triumphed by 21 points to 14.

And Wirral's former British featherweight champion, Jamie McKeever has taken a big step back on the road to regaining his title.

The 26-year-old from Birkenhead North, sidelined since February following a hand operation, scored a technical knockout victory in his come-back fight against Yorkshiremen Jim Betts in Manchester.

He now hopes to fight for the British title early next year.
