NEW Brighton were comfortable 29-14 winners at Stockton, on Saturday, in their latest outing in Courage North One League, on Saturday, and now lie fourth in the table.

It was their best away display of the season. They had the game won at the half-way stage, when they led 19-0. Alex Guest played a key role with a try, two conversions and five penalties. Dan Wild also went over.

But Birkenhead Park were edged out for the second time by leaders Blackburn in North West One League. The away game finished 22-25, with an extra penalty deciding the issue Blackburn's way.

John McNally, Ian Stanton and Alistair Lines crossed for Park and Jamie Pollock put over a penalty and two conversions.

Parkonians went down 5-21 away to St Edwards in South Lancashire/Cheshire One. Billy Lloyd touched down.

Caldy had an excellent 9-3 win at Chester in a defence dominated club match. Richard Farrall kicked two penalties and Mike Swainston a drop goal. Local derbies were won by Wirral, Anselmians and Prenton.

Wirral saw off Oldershaw 25-13 with tries through Danny Hodson, Reubin Whittaker and Simon Parnell. Simon Hignett managed two conversions and a couple of penalties. Oldershaw replied with an Ed McCulloch try, a conversion and penalty by Willy Gardner and a Neil Cross penalty.

Anselmians accounted for Port Sunlight 8-3. Stu James grabbed the only try and Andy Power a penalty. John Loxam kicked a penalty for Sunlight.

Prenton came away 18-12 winners from Wallasey, who had to be content with four penalties by Conrad North. Prenton had a Steve Wallace touch down and a penalty try plus a conversion and two penalties by Dave Thomas.

Hoylake beat Lucas 30-22. Tries were credited to Trevor Boult, Dan Baldock, John McNeil and Tony Dever. Andy Cotgrave had a brace of penalties and a couple of conversions.

NEW Brighton entertain second place Wigton at Reeds Lane this Saturday (February 8th), while North West One matches show Birkenhead Park v Penrith and Oldershaw v Netherhall.

Lower down the league scale, Caldy go to Ruskin Park, Parkonians entertain South Liverpool and Wirral have Anselmians as visitors. Port Sunlight and Hoylake meet in another derby, Wallasey are at home to Didsbury Toc H and Prenton go to Vulcan.
