CALDY's Stuart Lanceley has started the New Year with an adventure, as he makes a home on the other side of the world in Chile with the youth development charity Raleigh International.

Stuart, aged 18, will spend the next 10 weeks working on much needed community and environmental projects, learning about team work and motivation, what the charity teaches, alongside other young people from around the world.

The setting for this, the first of the charity's expeditions of the year in Chile, will see the participants making their homes in the Chilean wilderness, where the mountains rise above dense temperature rainforest.

Among the great scenery, the expedition has been tasked with building clinics and community halls in areas that were previously without.

They will work alongside scientists studying the distribution of the huemul - a highly endangered deer that is one of Chile's national symbols.

If you are aged 17-25 and are interested in applying for future expeditions, contact the information office on 0171 371-8585.
