SHAMED councillor Michael Howden has resigned from Wirral Council after being jailed for rape and indecent assault.
Last week's Globe highlighted the fact that the Conservative councillor for Wallasey was still a member of the local authority, pending any appeal against conviction.
A formal letter of resignation has been received by the Borough Solicitor, Phil Manson. A by-election will be held, but no date has been fixed. Other Wallasey ward councillors are Melanie Iredale (Labour) and Kate Wood (Conservative).
