WALLASEY Councillor Kate Wood has lent her support to the crisis torn Withens Lane College and Rake Lane Youth Theatre, both of which are scheduled to close down in July.

Students are extremely worried about further education prospects for the Wallasey community, if the Withens Lane site is mothballed. With a cloud hanging over the future of the Glenda Jackson Theatre in Birkenhead, and the Rake Lane Theatre being closed down, the future looks bleak for Wirral Youth Theatre Groups.

Said Cllr Wood: "I am violently opposed to the closure of both Withens Lane College and Rake Lane Theatre. The College want to clear the whole site to reduce their financial troubles. I fully support the Wallasey Further Education Group in their fight against the closure, but as councillors there is very little we can do. It is very sad because the people of Wallasey have a right to education."
