ANOTHER household name in Liscard Village shopping area is closing. Bookland has traded in the same building for 60 years but shuts on March 8.

"Trade has declined and continued to fall despite a refit last Autumn," said a company spokesman. Halfords, motor factors, is closing, too, at the end of March, although a company statement has not been issued yet.

Bookland orders will continue to be taken until February 28. School credit accounts will be transferred to Bookland, Chester.

The announcement comes as students raise a 20,000 name petition to try and stop the College Principal closing Withens Lane College, Liscard, for 'not being financially or educationally viable.'

"Liscard is being decimated by the number retailers pulling out. We have just lost Xception, Bookland, who next?" said one small shop owner.

Wallasey receives an out of town boost, on Friday, with the opening of B and Q providing 250 jobs.
