THE exciting concept Mini Carlo Rally Car, in last week's Globe, was only a concept car. But, John Cooper Garages opens another chapter in a long and distinguished heritage with the launch, this month, of two new models - the 1997 Cooper S Touring and the Cooper S Sport 5, based on the traditional shape Mini.

The new 'S' is derived from the highly acclaimed 97-spec Mini Cooper and is available only from John Cooper Garages in Sussex.

There are two derivatives; the 'S Touring' and the 'S Sport 5.' Both feature a specially developed 85bhp version of Rover's 1.3-litre twin-point injection A-series engine to produce impressive acceleration and a top speed of around 100mph. Exclusivity is guaranteed; just 150 'S' conversions are scheduled for completion by John Cooper Garages during 1997. Each car will be individually numbered and identified with a metal engraved plaque.

Two models: S Touring at £10,995; S Sport 5 at £12,995.

Locally, Windsors have a full range of standard or sporting mini models.
