From Gerald Keegan:- HAVING experienced a heart attack myself, I know only too well how important it is for heart disease patients to get help quickly.

Over 300,000 people have a heart attack each year in this country. About one in four heart attack victims dies before reaching hospital. Nearly half of all heart attacks are fatal.

Yet the chances of survival can be greatly increased if the victim receives prompt medical attention. The British Heart Foundation's campaign this February aims to help us all recognise the symptoms of heart attack so that medical assistance can be quickly called. They have produced a free credit card-sized guide detailing the four main symptoms of heart attack. This is available by calling 0990 200 656 or by writing to the British Heart Foundation, PO Box 2216, London W1A 1 WU.

Heart disease kills more people in Britain than any other disease. By being aware of what action to take in an emergency situation, and how to reduce our risk from heart disease, we can all help fight it.

I urge people in Wirral to call or send for the British Heart Foundation's information. By knowing the symptoms of heart attack, you could help save a life.
