CEWTEC's work in partnership with other regional agencies has already resulted in attracting significant inward investment during 1997.

Partnership has secured £37.5m from the Single Regeneration Budget for Chester, Wirral and Ellesmere Port and half a million pounds Objective One funding for workforce development in Wirral.

In an economic assessment of 1997-98 CEWTEC says: "Attracting large scale inward investment will be an ever more difficult task due to increased competition within the UK and the rest of the enlarged EU."

The CEWTEC area will benefit from securing the long term commitment of new and existing inward investors through enhanced 'after care' services.

The commitment by Vauxhall to re-invest in the Ellesmere Port plant and increase the number of suppliers in the area through the creation of the 'supplier village' is good news for both the short term gain and for the long term.

A key development in Wirral is the Twelve Quays site which can be instrumental in changing the image of the area and in providing high quality employment opportunities for local people. Added to that, there are positive developments at Lairdside.
