HOULIHAN'S FC maintained a steady course for a cup treble, reaching the final of the Birkenhead and Wirral Saturday Soccer League Victory Cup by narrowly beating the unlucky Royal Liver 2-1. Alan Sheridan and Mark Holden were on target.

Comet made it a double in cup final appearances, warming up for Friday's Wirral Junior Cup Final at Heswall with a 5-3 victory over FC Beehive. David Brunt, Micky Brunt, David Roberts and Lee Patterson were among the scorers. Paul Daven, 2, and Lee McGetrick replied. Nue Ave maintained third position in Division One - they have two games in hand - by beating Ashville 2-0 with Niel John and Peter Cotgrave on target. Phil Cowery's effort secured a slender 1-0 victory for fourth placed Old Bank over Parkfield BA.

In Division Three, F2's title hopes hang on a thread because second placed Black Horse are just a point behind with three games in hand.

They look favourites after a 2-0 victory over F2 with Robbie McGetrick and Gary Hunt on target. One O'Clock Gun, who are in joint second place, thrashed Hoylake Ford 6-1, with Ian Murphy, 2, Jed Smith, Anthony Murphy, Steve Murphy and Dave Edwards on target.

Chester Arms, just a point off second place, destroyed Candy United 6-2 and look formidable. Dad and junior double, Dave Johnson, fired a hat-trick each. Sutton Mr Q's must be kicking themselves after dropping a point against Parkfield BA Reserves, only managing a 1-1 draw. But with games in hand, they could still snatch the title from the noses of other teams.

Match of the day in Division Two saw champions Tarin beat second place Bird in Hand 4-2. Andy Jones, with 40 goals this season, sealed their fate with a hat-trick and Gary Bough fired the other. John Perry and Rob Penny replied. Clarence, who had high hopes of runners-up spot, were sunk 3-2 by Admiral, with Dave McCabbe, Wayne Bagley and Paul Hughes on target.

Delta turned on the style with their best performance of the season as they fired eight past FC Cleveland. Stanley's Vaults hauled themselves off the bottom of the division, beating Saunders 4-1 to send them to the bottom. Doubles from Duncan Van Marle and Peter Bowen sealed the rout.
