Currently on a week to week deal, Thomas, who progressed to the Rovers first team from the successful Youth Development Scheme, swapped the lure of sun, sea and sand for the somewhat contrasting surroundings of fish haven Grimsby Town, on Saturday, as he turned down a possible move to Spanish second division side Las Palmas.
Tranmere also rejected an undisclosed bid from Nationwide League Division One rivals Birmingham City for Thomas's services, and it remains to be seen whether Trevor Francis improves his offer before tomorrow's transfer deadline.
Thomas was all set to depart for Spain last week, then for personal reasons had a change of heart and played for Rovers in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Grimsby.
Rovers player-manager John Aldridge is a big admirer of Thomas and was set to open talks with Thomas on a new deal. Mr Aldridge is also hoping influential centre half and captain, John McGreal accepts new terms, rather than move elsewhere as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of this season.
