THIS year has seen the inaugural running of a short course cross country league organised by Wirral Athletic Club and sponsored by the Midland Bank.
The league comprises three races held at Arrowe Park with individual and team trophies awarded to overall winners in both age groups.
In the Girls' Year 7 races, Nicki Smith (Plessington) was first with Samantha Stamp (West Kirby) second and Helen Kean (Woodchurch) third. Team placings included: 1, Woodchurch; 2, Wirral Grammar; 3, Pensby High School.
Kim Gorbet (Pensby Boys) was winner of the Boys' race with M. Shelbourne and S. Callard (both Birkenhead) in second and third place.
Year 8 Girls' races saw Lindsay Doyle (West Kirby) finish first, Rachel Broadhurst (Ridgeway) second and Ruth Barber (Wirral Grammar) third. The winning team was Wirral Grammar.
Year 8 Boys' race placings included: Gareth Pritchard (Wirral Grammar), 1st; David Yarwood (Birkenhead) 2nd; Andrew Marr (Neston) 3rd. Winning team: Birkenhead School.
All the day's winners received Olympic Appeal Tee-shirts from Midland Bank.
