TRANMERE Rovers are looking for a bit of 'eggstra' help in the transfer market before tomorrow's 5pm transfer deadline, with a striker and creative midfield player the main priority in a last ditch bid to make the Nationwide League Division One end-of-season Play-offs (writes Steve Hunter).

It's a crunch time for Rovers, who face a make or break Easter programme of three matches in seven days, starting with Good Friday's Prenton Park clash with bottom club Southend (kick-off 7.45pm), followed by Easter Monday's trip to Port Vale (3pm) - a match full-back Alan Rogers misses because he starts a two match suspension.

Player-manager John Aldridge was yesterday still hopeful of signing versatile midfielder Scott Green from Bolton, despite having an earlier offer rejected. Bolton want £400,000.

With eight games left to play, Rovers are five points adrift of a Play-off place, but with a game in hand, Maximum points over Easter are seen as vital to keeping their promotion dream alive.

Mr Aldridge believes Tranmere have drawn too many games. "We have drawn three and lost one of our last four games," he told me. "You need better results than that to reach the Play-offs. We can't look to the results of others - we've got to do the business ourselves. At the moment, we're not doing that."

Assistant manager Ray Mathias added: "There are eight games left and anything is possible. We're not out of it by any means . . ."
