THERE are just 24 hours left before the closing date for nominations for this year's Wirral Volunteer of the Year Award!

Members of the public have only until tomorrow (Thursday, March 27) to put forward the name of their 'heart of gold' - so if you have not yet voted, do hurry! Already, many names have been received, but in particular the organisers, Wirral Volunteer Bureau, part of Wirral Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), would like to see more nominations coming in for three of the six categories - Unwaged, Young Volunteer and Disabled Volunteer.

Said a spokesman: "It would be a shame if people whose voluntary deeds deserve recognition were not to be considered by the judges simply because they had not been nominated."

The latest batch of nominations include a woman who organises courses that lead to recognised qualifications and another woman who does sterling work through her local church.
