A NEW housing agency, the first of its kind in the country, has been officially launched in Wirral. Wirral Unified Housing Waiting List Agency is a new partnership between the Council and eight housing associations in Wirral.
It radically changes the way people are allocated social housing. The Housing Association's partners are: Anchor, Co-operative Development Services, Liverpool Housing Trust, Maritime, Riverside, Rodney, Wirral Methodist and YPHA.
Previously, if someone wanted to apply for social housing they could apply to the Council, go to a Housing Association or apply to several Housing Associations.
This meant separate visits to different organisations, filling in separate forms and then going onto separate lists. The Agency does away with all that red tape. Now, people make only one application to the Wirral Unified Housing Waiting List Agency at Westminster House, Hamilton Street, Birkenhead, and are registered on a computer.
