THE 100th Wirral Amateur Cup Final has been won by Mallaby, of the South Wirral League, who defeated Castrol Social on penalties at Ashville FC on Easter Monday. Mallaby are the first club outside the West Cheshire League to win the trophy in 29 years.

Brian Robinson had given Mallaby the lead mid-way through the second-half, but this was wiped out by Tony Livens' header with 15 minutes remaining. Mallaby won the shoot-out 4-3, Leon Bimpson saving Castrol's last kick.

This season's Pyke Cup Final will be an all-Wirral affair with last year's runners-up, Heswall, taking on surprise packet Stork. Good Friday's semi-final saw Heswall beat Christleton 4-0, with Graham Steele, 2, Danny Croxton and Mark Brady on target.

Stork beat Mond Rangers 2-1, with a penalty by Steve Wynne and Lee Crowder's effort. Dave Williams of all people reduced the arrears for Mond with 15 minutes left, but Stork held on to take their deserved place in the final on May 5 at Cammell Laird FC (kick-off 11am).

In Saturday's league programme, a late strike by substitute Stu Jones earned Division One leaders Poulton Vics both points after they had gone a goal down at Capenhurst to an Alan Brown strike. Dave Galloway equalised for Vics.

Bromborough Pool also came from a goal down to maintain their challenge with a 4-2 victory over Cammell Laird, with Paul Jonas, 2, Chris Rogers and a penalty by Paul Conboy. Wayne Foden scored twice in reply.

There was a major upset in Division Two, where hosts Mersey Royal Reserves put a spoke in West Kirby's promotion drive thanks to a Martin Ross goal on the hour mark.

Despite falling two goals behind with Ben McHugh and Jamie Whittaker on target for Shell Reserves, Heswall Reserves stormed to a 7-2 victory with hat-trick hero Keith Rooney leading the charge. New Brighton beat Christleton Reserves 4-0, thanks to a Tim Gilbert hat-trick and a Mike Williams strike, to remain in the runners-up spot.

Poulton Vics had regular marksmen Nigel Carr and Kevin Pink on target in the 2-0 win over Manor Athletic. Cammell Laird Reserves continue to display good form and enjoyed a 2-0 win over Willaston with John Power and Paul Ford on target.
