STAFF at Arrowe Park Hospital paid tribute to the Wirral area group of the British Cardiac Patients' Association Zipper Club following the presentation of a wheelchair.

Sister Kathy Shirley, Day Case Assessment Sister on the Adult Day Ward, expressed her thanks for the £450 wheelchair to Zipper Club co-ordinator Bill Tunnicliffe and the Ross Care mobility aids shop, in the hospital's main entrance, who supplied the lightweight, folding wheelchair.

Said Sister Shirley: "We have long wanted a wheelchair to transport patients to their ECGs and X-rays and also around the ward. We are very grateful to the Zipper Club for all their efforts."

Mr Tunnicliffe expressed his own gratitude to Ross Care shop manager Rowena Bankcroft for rushing the order through to ensure that the wheelchair arrived within just two days.

The Zipper Club also presented two blood pressure monitors on stands, costing a total of £160 to Ward 32 and two rechargeable electric razors, costing £60, to the Cardiac Care Unit.

The money for these items and the wheelchair was raised by a series of events ranging from car boot sales to coffee mornings and also from a charity stall in the main entrance at Arrowe Park Hospital.

In the 10 years since its formation, the Wirral Zipper Club has raised £40,000 for hospital equipment and 'creature comforts' for patients.
