HOYLAKE Cottage Hospital's newspaper collection - which has raised more than £12,000 in less than 10 years - has ceased to operate.

And tribute has been paid to the woman who has organised the collection throughout that time, Mrs Muriel Waters.

Mrs Waters, in fact, has been organising waste paper collections for more than 20 years, raising money for various charities.

Over the last eight years, she has raised some £12,300, all of which has been donated to the Cottage Hosptial.

Mr Peter Ryan, fund raiser at Hoylake Cottage Hospital, a non-profit making community hospital serving Wirral, said:-

"The Hoylake Cottage Hospital wish to express their gratitude to Muriel for the generous contribution she has made over the years.

"It is particularly pleasing to us that she is making use of some of her new-found free time to help as an escort on the Cottagers' Club mini-bus."
