Advertising company director Peter Garner, 55, of Hessle Drive, Lower Heswall, was found to have consumed over two-and-a-half times the alcohol limit.
He admitted drink driving at Heswall in February.
The court was told he had been to a business meeting and drunk wine. He admitted driving, but it was claimed on his behalf he was swerving due to high wind.
Garner was fined £450 plus £30 costs and banned from driving for 22 months.
