THE DEEP bellow of an Auto Union V16 will be heard in Britain for the first time since the great Bernd Rosemeyer drove one to victory in the 1937 Donington Grand Prix when, the model known to have survived intact makes its post-war competition debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 20.

At the wheel of the newly restored, silver, 16-cylinder, super-charged 520bhp three seater will be Hans-Joachim Stuck, double Le Mans winner, 1990 touring car champion and son of the legendary Mountain Climb hero, Hans Stuck.

The only previous appearance in action of an Auto Union V16 in Britain, apart from the Donington GP, was in Stuck Seniors hands at Shelsley Walsh hill climb on June 6, 1936.

Vintage car racing comes to Cheshire on June 28, when Oulton Park hosts the Sir Henry Seagrave Trophy.
