A 30-YEAR-OLD man who attacked a pub manager after earlier being ordered to take his bicycle out has been barred from the premises for two years.

Liverpool Crown Court heard that Philip Lewis was restrained by friends but managed to lean over one of them to punch the landlord, Raymond Hughes, three times.

One of the blows smashed his cheekbone and after surgery he spent two days in hospital.

Lewis, of Kings Close, Bebington, pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

After hearing that he was a paranoid schizophrenic who has never been in trouble before, Judge Denis Clark placed him on probation for three years.

He told Lewis that he was also barring him from entering the pub, The Three Stags at Bebington, for the next two years.

Mr Michael Scholes, prosecuting, said that on the evening of January 25, Lewis had an argument with Mr Hughes because he would not allow him to bring his bike in.

Two hours later he returned and approached Mr Hughes again. Despite friends' efforts to restrain him Lewis succeeded in attacking the other man.

Mr Jack Cowan, defending, said that Lewis had a long-standing schizophrenic condition for which he received treatment.
