TRAIN services on the Wirral line change next month because of work on the new Conway Park Station in Birkenhead. A temporary timetable will come into action from October 4 to November 2. For that month, buses replace trains between Birkenhead North and Hamilton Square connecting passengers with West Kirby, New Brighton or Liverpool. There will also be some changes to timetables during the week September 28 to October 3.

WIRRAL dentist Leonard Spofforth, of Ford Road, Upton, has pleaded not gulity to eight offences of forgery and false accounting. He was further remanded on bail, from Liverpool Crown Court, until his trial on December 15.

COUNCILLORS at next week's policy and resources committee will get an update on poll tax, rates and business rates collection. Business rates arrears have increased by nearly £500,000 because of two large, not named, debts. One debt amounting to £298,000 has been reduced 'substantially' in the new financial year to £68,000. The other, in excess of £500,000, is subject to a closely monitored arrangement.

MONEY owed to the local authority in council house rents is £3.4m. Wirral Council manages a total of 19,211 dwellings.
