But at Wirral Magistrates Court a new charge was laid against 40-year-old Anthony John Hughes of wounding his wife Ann Marie Hughes with intent to do her grievous bodily harm on the same day.
Hughes, who is residing at a bail hostel in Stockport, was committed for Crown Court trial and was bailed with conditions which included keeping out of Wirral and not making any contact with his wife..
He is due to appeal for plea and direction on November 6.
The prosecution also asked that he be discharged on another matter alleging rape on a woman on a different July date.
