THE world of hockey in Wirral suffered a massive blow with the untimely death of Eric Brick at the age of 69.
Eric had been involved in the game for most of his adult life, having played for Oxton, Stork and Bebington where he became Chairman for many years and latterly President.
It was from here that he started to make his major contribution to the game. He started the youth section at the club and then created Wirral School and Youth Hockey.
At the outset, 10 years ago, there were just two secondary schools affiliated to the H.A. Eric's imagination, vision and commitment, which led him to become involved in Cheshire C.H.A., North West Schools Y.H.A. and the local Sports Council (as chairman for some time) means that this coming season will see 12 primary and 15 secondary schools playing hockey in Wirral.
He also found time to be Chairman of Governors at a local primary school.
Eric's funeral was attended by representatives of Cheshire, Lancashire, North West Schools and the local clubs and schools, his fellow governors and fellow members of the Royal Society of Chemists.
