PUPILS at Kingsmead Scool, Hoylake, expect a visit by the Lloyds Bank hot air balloon tomorrow. It is part of the bank's educational programme with the Virgin Airship Balloon.
THREE retired consultants - one of them from West Kirby - are being honoured for their work in geriatric medicine by the British Geriatrics Society. Special medals will go to Doctors Phil Robinson, of West Kirby, Geoff Murray, of Freshfield, and William Fine, who lives in London. Dr Robinson was the first secretary of Merseyside BGS. A consultant physician at Clatterbridge, he set up a geriatric service, which took over traditional long-stay wards and encouraged rehab.
VOLUNTEER wardens on the Dee Estuary are starting their 12th season of watching and protecting thousands of wading birds on West Kirby and Hoylake beaches. The wardens, all local people, have formed an official group, Dee Estuary Voluntary Wardens.
WESTBOURNE Community Centre in West Kirby is drawing up a joint management agreement with Wirral Council to run the centre and give users a chance to contribute. The centre has recently been refurbished giving better facilities to disabled, elderly and children.
