WIRRAL parents and staff at Ellerary Park Special School are celebrating topping £50,000 in an appeal to fund a hydrotherapy pool.

A recent donation of £4,000 from Merseycats brought the school to the halfway mark, but more donations are needed, especially as the project has been turned down by the National Lottery and Children in Need.

The appeal was launched four years ago to provide better facilities at the school in Wallasey, which caters for 74 disabled youngsters from throughout Wirral.

To help boost funds for the pool, a special jazz concert is being held at the Floral Pavilion Theatre on October 26. 'Unforgettable - A tribute to the great vocalists' will be performed by Wallasey-born singer, Iain Tyrell, with the award-winning Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra and a special appearance by Claire Sweeney, Brookside's Lyndsey Corkhill.

The programme will include classics from Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Harry Connick Junior. Tickets at £6.50 and £4.50 (concessions) are available from the Floral Pavilion box office on 639-4360.
