BISHOP of Liverpool David Sheppard leaves Liverpool Cathedral for a new 'parish' today in West Kirby. There will be a farewell service for the Bishop, who retires to live here in Wirral with his wife, Grace. They plan to do ordinary things that a busy Bishop can't do.

David Sheppard arrived in the city in 1975 and has been the 'People's Bishop' for 22 years, during which time the Queen and Pope have paid visits. There have been difficult times, too: the Toxteth Riots, Miners' Strike, Heysel and Hillsborough.

Now he looks forward, at the age of 68, to a well-earned rest in retirement, after a working life that included playing Test cricket for England, with the possibility of a book to come.

In our Flashback David Sheppard arrives as the new Bishop of Liverpool - now he is about to retire to the quiet life in West Kirby.

- new faces in town!

THE BIBBY name is well known locally but who has heard of Nicola and Alexandra Bibby? Well, the stage is set for them to debut at a concert for St John's Hospice.

Piano duo Nicola and Alexandra have been playing together since 1984 and have performed regularly elsewhere in the country and abroad.

Alex, of Column Road, West Kirby, told the Globe: "I recently moved here with my husband Martin Cooper, an artist, so the Bibby duo has performed little in this area and consequently few people have heard of us!"

Nicola and Alexandra debut at the Williamson Art Gallery, Oxton, on Friday, October 10. Tickets are £7.50 on 625-5711, or 632-1676. All proceeds go to St John's Hospice.
