SALES of the Citroen Saxo supermini soared to 13,445 units during August making it the company's first model to break the 10,000 sales barrier in a single month. Equivalent to an 8.5 per cent share of the small car market, Saxo's success has helped Citroen archive its best ever August sales total of 26,622 vehicles.

The Saxo VTR and VTS have spearheaded the sales drive accounting for some 20 per cent of total Saxo sales in the month.

Since its launch a little more than a year ago, the Citroen Saxo has achieved 42,470 UK sales, a sales testimony to a range which has been broadened to include five door, automatic and diesel versions.

"The Citroen Saxo has proved a huge success in the UK and is right now selling faster than any other Citroen ever marketed in the UK. We intend to repeat this success over the next twelve months with our brand new family car, the Citroen Xsara which will go on sale in November," said Jean Marie Walch, Managing Director of Citroen UK Ltd.
