GREETINGS! Mayor of Tameside Eileen Shorrock will send civic greetings, via vintage car, to Wirral Mayor Bernie Gilfoyle on Sunday, September 28, when Tame Valley Vintage and Classic Car Club arrives for the New Brighton Classic, writes Robin Bird.

A wide range of vintage and classic cars will gather at Fort Perch Rock for the 7th New Brighton Classic, hosted by Wirral Leisure Services.

John and Clive Williams will once again bring some very early cars, a 1907 Peugeot Lion and a 1897 Roberts Electric. Don Mills, who transported Miss Wirral Globe through the Mersey Tunnel, on its Diamond Anniversary, will also be there, in the pre 1930 class, in his 1926 Rolls Tourer.

"Mystic Meg" Brickwell, of Tame Valley, also forecasts a 'bad back' for ex television repair man Robert Rampage, of Wallasey, in his 1938 Morris 12/4 while Bert Tarberner, of Greasby, will also be there in his 1955 Morris Minor.

A Messerschmidt will land at New Brighton - I think there are shot down bits of them inside the Perch Rock aircraft museum - this is a post war Bubble car example, a rare cabriolet version, in fact.

Wirral Classic Car Club will be supporting the New Brighton Claasic. Richard Warren promises to bring a three wheeler Peerless, on a trailer, because it is undergoing restoration. This was built in Birkenhead and is believed to be the only remaining one.

Yours truly will be there, probably in the black MG TC but I might cheat by being in a white Sunbeam Alpine, in the classic sports car section. DIY store owner Alan Howells, of Wallasey, is expected in his concours winning E Type Jaguar. There will be several MG Midgets and MGB competing for the M and G Inter- national trophy from the Birkenhead-based MG parts supplier while Malcolm Brian is bringing a Ferrari 308 GTB. So, there will be lots of interesting cars to look at while talking to the owners. There is no admission charge, although entries for the New Brighton Classic closed some time ago.
