THE new Volkswagen Passat estate has all the qualities of the Passat saloon with the addition of increased versatility.

The Passat goes on sale at Smith Knight Fay during October with 'on the road' prices ranging from £15,800 for the 1.6S 100bhp up to £21,110 for the Sport TDI 110 automatic with air conditioning - these represent a £950 premium over the equivalent saloon. The new model will be one of the stars on Volkswagen's stand at the London Motor Show.

This is the fifth generation of the highly successful Passat estate - of all those built since 1974, about 1,300,000 are still in use. The latest Passat estate is the most aerodynamic yet with a drag coefficient starting at 0.31 for 1.6 versions. It is also the largest Passat estate to date both externally and internally.

Though borrowing the platform and front end design of the new Passat saloon the body of the estate is purpose built with specifically designed rear door frames and a large rear window for excellent rear visibility.
