DAREDEVIL one legged ex-bobby Swasie Turner has achieved some amazing feats in his time, and despite his disability completed the Great North Run half-marathon in Newcastle, in a standard issue wheelchair in an incredible time of 3 hours, 5 minutes.

One of Merseyside's best-known bobbies, Swasie served in the fast lane for more than 25 years and in his own words, met his 'Waterloo' while on patrol in New Brighton, when he was charged down by a high powered motorbike. This left him with major injuries which forced his retirement, and following 12 operations had his right leg amputated last November.

Swasie has put all his troubles behind him and contributed a great deal of money for charity. He completed the 15 mile Wirral Coastal Walk, and has climbed Leasowe and New Brighton lighthouses.

His latest fund-raising adventure saw him take part in the Great North Run for his adopted charity, the Clatterbridge Cancer Gene Appeal.

Wirral television cameraman Ally Boxie is recording a documentary on Swasie for a Wirral cable TV station he is hoping to set up, and would like to say a special thank you to Wirral Volvo dealers Drayton Motors for providing transport to Newcastle. Drayton contacted Volvo UK to provide transport for Swasie. Ally also thanks Wallasey Round Table for their assistance.

Not content with taking part in the Great North Run, Swasie climbed the lighthouse at the point of Ayr on his way home, and there are plans in the offing to climb Blackpool Tower!
