Don't let Wirral die 1,000 deaths . . .

From Brenda Sanders:-

FOR many years Merseyside has suffered job losses with one factory closure after another. With the propose closure of Tulip International Wirral faces yet another factory closure. This proposal must be stopped otherwise Wirral will surely die a death from a thousand cuts.

In the last eighteen months we have suffered the closure of Bristol Myer Squibbs, HH Thompson, Littlewoods Pools, the threatened closure of Spillers Pet Foods early next year and now Tulip are planning to move to Wellingborough causing the loss of another five hundred jobs in our community.

It is not only Tulip workers that will be affected - suppliers of packaging, transport workers and shopkeepers in the surrounding area will all suffer.

We believe Tulip can relocate to a state of the art factory on the Wirral with the help of Wirral Borough Council and the assisting agencies. If they choose not to stay there will be more misery for Merseyside in general and the Wirral in particular.

Is there a grand plan to cut off the Wirral from the rest of the country? Is there a plan to float us down the Mersey into the Irish Sea and ever outwards?

There will be a march and rally on Saturday October 4, assembling at Birkenhead Park gates at 11.30 for a 12 noon start. The march will take a route through Conway Street, Grange Road and Charing Cross returning to Birkenhead Park between 1-1.30pm to hear four speakers. We sincerely hope that the people of Wirral will come and join us on the rally and help preserve our community.
