From Patrick H. Williams:
WHY do the 'pay & display' parking meters in the town centre not accept the new 50p coins which came into circulation on September 1?
Were those responsible for the meters unaware of the impending change and its date? The machines accept all other silver coins, why not these?
The older type of 50p coin will be withdrawn by the banks in February 198. Will the machines accept only new ones from that date? If so, we should be told now.
I wonder whether the excuse will be that to change the machines will be too costly because of lack of funding, once again. Will the solution be to increase the minimum charge to a more convenient £1?
